Photographs keep our memories alive. Photography has undergone a revolution with digital technology. No longer is photography done with a camera and the prints developed in a dark room, which would take a few days to be developed. Now it is the digital age. Everything has to be done quickly. With the advent of digital photography this is indeed possible.

Earlier to take photographs, photographic films were used, images created and photographic processing was done to make the photos visible for all to see as pictures. In digital photography, digital technology is used to make digital images of people or any pictures that fancy us. This is then stored digitally in computers. No chemical processing needs to be done. The pictures can be stored, retrieved whenever we want, transmitted to any one we want to send it to, printed and also displayed.

The pictures can be taken with the help of a digital camera. The digital film is made up of flash memory modules or recordable CD’s. This can be transferred to the computer and stored there. In the computer, the photos can be made to look better with digital technology. The color of the picture, the background, the main image in the photo and the lighting can be made to look different and better. It can also be put on a website.

Digital technology gives the pictures a longer life as opposed to the camera print. We no longer need to have prints. We can see in on the computer whenever we want to. We can sent to near and dear ones far away.

Digital photography is a form of digital imaging. This can<div

It can be done with computer tomography scanners and radio telescopes without photographic equipments. Digital images can be made of conventional photographs, thus helping in restoring old photographs and helping in keeping memories alive.

Digital photography is the order of the day. Nowadays no one uses the conventional camera. Many new techniques have been made to improve the technology of digital photography. Every aspect of photography is advancing. New strides are being taken in all fields of lighting, optics, sensors, processing and display. There is also new software to integrate all this.

Normal images can be transformed into 3D images. This looks good when viewed from different angles. Making 3D images is very computer intensive. Models of famous places can be seen with the help of Microsoft Photosynth.

High Dynamic Range Cameras and displays are available. With a non-HDR camera a HDR a person can create his/her own HDR image combining multiple exposures. Dust Reduction Systems are also being put in digital SLR cameras to keep the dust of the image sensors of the camera.

A new technique is now used in museums. Using computer controlled lights and sensors; an object’s specular reflection is captured. This helps in taking pictures of oil paintings. This is not available in the market. Another feature is the removal of motion blur with the help of a flutter shutter. This is also not available in the market. Other areas that have improved are computer software, displays, enlarged gamut sensors and computer controlled lighting.

Various new techniques are being worked on and thought of by the companies that produce digital cameras and those who are into digital photography. Every now and then we hear of newer advances which improve the quality of photographs and help to restore the old ones that we possess.

Albertleo is an expert, who is working on site <a

Advancement in technology earmarks the growth of civilization and one of the most important fields where the importance of technology is being felt is factory. Over a span of time industries have witnessed continuous change with regard to processing equipments, material handling equipments. Handling equipments and lifting equipments have undergone profound change over a span of time. This would be more apparent once we explain with example. Let us take the example of crane. It works on the simple principle of lever and pulley. The use and application of cranes dates back to the Roman era when cathedrals were built by early Roman kings. Even the pedestals of Egyptian pyramids could not be built without the use of cranes.

The crane consists of horizontal beam which is attached to a fulcrum. Once a little force is applied at the longer end, the shorter end of the beam lifts a specified amount of load provided that the ratio of the load to the applied force is equal to the ratio of lengths of both the arms. Sometimes a hydraulic cylinder is being used to lift the load or to monitor the jib containing lifting equipment. Tower cranes do not have movable base. In this case, the base looks like a ladder and is perpendicular to the base.

Mobile crane happens to be the most simplistic forms of cranes. A telescopic boom mounts on a movable platform. A hook is suspended at one end of the boom to lift objects. The boom is operated by the mechanism of lever and pulley.

However a crane must be so designed to lift a specified amount of load only. The cr

ane must be stable enough so that it does not topple over once the load is being lifted.

Cranes are of different types and they are used to fulfil different types of requirements. Crawler crane, gantry crane, overhead crane, and tower crane to name a few. A tower crane happens to be the most advanced type. They are mostly used in construction houses. The equipment is generally fixed to the ground or sometimes even supported by a shaft.

The interesting part is that these types of cranes are being operated by a radio remote control by the crane operator. Of the two arms of the crane, the shorter arm of the crane carries a counterweight of concrete blocks and the longer arm carries a lifting gear.

Another significant sphere where the presence of technology is mostly felt is telescope crane. Telescopic cranes are mostly used in construction houses. A telescopic crane has a boom that consists of a number of tubes interlocked with each others. A hydraulic mechanism is used that expands or contracts the tube and regulate the length of the boom. Sometimes again a tower crane is assembled with the telescopic crane. While a tower crane is ideally suited for construction purpose, small telescopic cranes are used for dismantling the tower cranes at a later stage.

The importance of crane as a lifting equipment can not be exaggerated.

The basic purpose of crane is to reduce workload by means of mechanical support. Cranes differ in its form and structure and its application varies depending on the purpose where it is being used.

Summary: The author explains how advanced technology has improved the world of lifting equipments. Cranes and other lifting equipments have become increasingly sophisticated with time and technology growth.

for more info please refer <a

We often take for granted a part of our home that we pass by day in and day out. What part is that? It is your front porch. If you have a medium to large front porch, think of it as an extension of your home where you can spend time with your family. You might wonder what you could possibly do on your porch.

I found it easy to come up with a bunch of simple family activities that you could do on your porch with your son, daughter, spouse, mother, father, grandparent, neighbor or friend. Now, don’t laugh when you read this list. Some activities will be more appealing to you than others. Some might even bring back memories of when you were a kid.

Here are the first 37 things that came to my mind, but I did not stop there. I have many more coming in my next few articles. Some of these activities will work best if you have a small table on your porch. Keep in mind that the weather and your porch lighting play a factor in some of these activities.

So let’s get to it.

Play a game of checkers, chess, cards or any board game like scrabble or monopoly. All are fun front porch classics. Read stories out loud to each other. Listen to some mysteries on old-time radio when it’s dark outside. Write birthday cards for the month ahead. Work on a puzzle book together. Read the newspaper with your honey. Listen to an audio book together, maybe a chapter at a time. Plant an herb garden to put on the ledge of your railing. Make potholders from loops. Remember that as a kid? Rock a baby on your porch rocker (you need a baby for this one!). L<div

You can even make the bubble solution yourself. Draw with sidewalk chalk. Install a ceiling fan on your porch (great project for a knowledgeable parent to teach an older child). Play jacks, tiddlywinks or marbles (these can be fun, really!). Magic tricks Play a keyboard or guitar and sing some songs. Listen to hockey, basketball, baseball or football on your radio. Do a homework assignment together. Setup your telescope and identify stars, planets and UFO’s . Surf the internet, update your blog, answer questions in a forum. Talk on the phone to your grandma or grandpa. Spill your heart to each other on the porch swing. Fold clothes. Folding clothes doesn’t have to be boring! Get a cool paint-by-number and get going on it. Brainstorm ideas to fix up your porch to make it even nicer. Hang up a porch swing with a friend. Identify birds and keep a bird watching journal. Put a jigsaw puzzle together. Do this on something that easily transports to the house. Sort through and organize your recipes. Clip coupons, articles or pictures from newspapers and magazines. Make a stepping stone from a store-bought kit.. Some include colored, sparkly gems and letter stencils to personalize your stepping stone. Build a wind chime and hang it on your porch. Paint small decorative bird houses to decorate your porch. Have a book club meeting on your porch – complete with some snacks like lemonade, refrigerator cookies and popcorn. Get out your sketch pad and sketch a picture of your front porch to hang in your home. Decorate your front door with a wreath, basket or some beautiful bright fresh paint.

Your porch is a perfect little piece of heaven that you just might be overlooking. It’s a great place to spend time outdoors with someone you love or just by yourself. Even in this fancy, high tech world where we are constantly entertained by television, videos and game boxes, sometimes getting back to the basics is rather refreshing.

Dream up your own reasons for spending time on your own front porch with your family. It just might improve the rest of your life, too.

Look for future articles from me with more fun activities to do on your front porch.

Mary Morris is a porch lover and invites you to visit <a

Those of us that have been watching the development of the computer industry for some years may remember that one of the alternatives to massive supercomputers developed ten or fifteen years ago was the use of large numbers of smaller computers working in tandem. The concept involves using a “massively parallel server” that can scale hundreds, even thousands of CPUs to function in cooperation while executing a project that requires enormous computing power. The server essentially allocates tasks, or portions of tasks to different low-level machines and gathers the resultant data for a completed project.

Distributed computing projects are the contemporary version of massively parallel computing. The advent of broadband technology has allowed the usage of machines that are remotely located and that need not be hard wired to the “mother ship,” so to speak. The result has been some fascinating projects that combine digital cooperation in social, cultural and medical endeavors that include any interested party who has the right equipment and wants to participate.

One of the recent projects to make news is an ongoing Stanford University project called Folding@Home (FAH). Stanford researchers are trying to understand a “folding” process that occurs in proteins before they move on to become enzymes or antibodies. The scientists hope that understanding the folding process will enable them to understand why some proteins go awry and lead to afflictions such as Alzheimer’s and cystic fibrosis.

The projec

t requires massive repetitions of the folding process simulations and, therefore, enormous amounts of computing power. Stanford has set up a computer network to perform the repetitious folding and invited participation from interested parties with the communications bandwidth and the computer power to perform properly. Sony has recently announced that its latest Playstation 3 platform will have sufficient power to allow gamers in possession of the new box to participate in the Stanford program. Kudos to Sony for a great marketing ploy and to Stanford for recognizing an unusual and untapped source of distributed computing power.

Another of the more interesting distributed computer projects is being operated by SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. It is headquartered at UC Berkeley and is basically engaged in analyzing billions of bits of data provided by radio telescopes operated by the University and NASA. The massive amounts of data requires massive computer power, so the SETI program recruits volunteers with computers to connect with the SETI project and allow the SETI servers to put those PCs to use.

When a volunteer is online, SETI takes control of the computer and uses it to perform analytical functions with the software that has been provided. They also warn that participating in SETI’s distributed computer project has been known to become a serious resource hog – so limit your machine’s participation, if necessary.

The software for SETI and many other distributed computer projects is BOINC, the Berkeley Infrastructure for Network Computing. This operating program basically provides the platform for remote participation in parallel computing projects, and many scientific efforts have put it to work.

If you are so inclined, a few you can choose from include the BBC Climate Change Experiment (global warming); United Devices Cancer Research (screening molecules against cancer protein targets); and Fight Aids@Home (identifying drug characteristics that are resistant to mutations). This last project had a web site in Chinese for its first phase, and completed 9 million tasks using about 1,400 years of computing time on over 60,000 computers.

Madison Lockwood is a customer relations associate, specializing in small business development, for Apollo Hosting.
