Disney World is a much sought-after destination for family vacationing. However, with all of the activities and sights to see at the Magic Kingdom, the bills could pile up as high as Space Mountain. Even with the tightest wallet, a family of four could spend thousands to see Cinderella’s Castle. If you and your family are planning a trip to Disney World, saving every penny will allow you to see more parks and spend more time in the Kingdom. A budget-friendly Disney vacation can be yours – and these five tips can help make that a reality!

Tip #1: Go for the package deal.

Millions of people visit Disney World each year. So, of course, Disney has a number of package deals available to help make your stay more convenient. Many people opt to instead stay in other non-Disney hotels, plan budget meals, and so forth, but the truth is that you can save a lot of money by simply making your trip centered on Disney. The packaged deals they offer really do help you save money.

Tip #2: Compare your travel options.

Some families choose to drive instead fly when going on vacation. However, with gas prices through the roof, this may not be the best option. It depends on a number of factors including the efficiency of your car, the distance to Orlando, the size of your family, the ages of your children, and the time of year during which you plan to travel. If you have a small family, want to travel during the off-season, and live far from Florida, heading to the airport may be your best choice.

Taking a train or bus to get to Disne

y World is another option many families choose. A bus or train is a great choice if your children are older and you live within a reasonable distance from Orlando. The key to finding the best price is to research and compare options. If possible, also work with a travel agent to find the best prices in a package deal or group discount. If you want to make the most budget -friendly choice for your Disney World vacation, be sure to explore every travel option before packing your bags.

Tip #3: Check into Disney Club prices for accommodations.

Some families visit Disney World more than just once, and, if your family qualifies, being a member of the Disney Vacation Club can save you money. This club is not equivalent to owning a timeshare with Disney, but you get “points” for your membership, which can then be redeemed at any one of their many club resorts, which are only available to club members. It is important to note that this is not a real estate investment. It is simply a way to save money and make the most of a Disney World vacation if you live nearby and plan to travel to the Magic Kingdom more than once..

However, even if you don’t have the resources to do that, the Disney Club may be able to help you. Points expire after a certain period of time, so if a member cannot make it to Disney, it is possible to sell the points. Once you purchase these points, Disney accommodations become available for a reduced rate! Do your research, and, if the points can help you save, buy some for your family vacation.

Tip #4: Buy a meal plan and eat off-site for the meals not covered.

Food is expensive in the Magic Kingdom, and, you are not permitted to take your own food into the park. If you plan to spend the entire day exploring Disney World’s parks, you will most likely dine at them as well. While time may fly when you’re having fun, hunger does not, so consider one of Disney’s meal plans, which is part of the vacation packages they offer. With the meal plans, you pay one set price for a certain number of dinners and snacks per day. That means you can get more for your money! Another option is getting your hand stamped and leaving the park for lunch. Orlando does have some great family options that are less expensive than food in the park itself. So, perhaps this would be the best option for your family.

Tip #5: Buy Disney Dollars online.

Disney Dollars are exchangeable at a 1:1 rate, but only in Disney itself. You can use them for most souvenirs and food in the parks, as well as in some non-park stores. Many people like to buy Disney Dollars to give their children a “Disney allowance” for items at the park, which is a great idea. However, if you buy them online ahead of time, it is possible to save some money. Because Disney Dollars cannot be used anywhere else or exchanged back to regular dollars, people who have them left over usually sell them for less than a 1:1 rate.

Disney World can fill your imagination but it does not have to empty your wallet in the process. There are many affordable options you and your family can take advantage of in order to place this vacation in your price range. Do your homework, do some research, and you should be able to find a Disney World option that works for best you. Above all else, have a great time, and enjoy your stay in the Magic Kingdom!

Craig Smith is a freelance writer who writes about topics involving vacations and the travel industry including <a

Making the decision to take a vacation at Walt Disney World may be easy; however deciding where to stay can be more of a challenge. With over 30 hotels, timeshares and resorts on the Disney World property, there are options available to suit every budget and style. You can stay in a perfectly adequate room for less than $100 or pay several thousand dollars for a luxurious suite. On average, a family of four will pay around $500 a day to vacation at Disney.

There are many options available to the vacationer at Walt Disney World. While staying at a hotel in one of the parks generally costs more than staying at a hotel in the surrounding area, there are advantages to being close to the action. Spending the night in the actual park makes visiting the park a bit easier. Not only can you be standing in line when the doors open in the morning, you can easily return to your hotel room during the day for a much needed break.

In addition to these benefits, vacationers who stay at a Disney hotel have access to “Extra Magic Hours” which allows guests of the hotel to experience one of the four theme parks an hour before the normal opening time, or two hours after normal closing time. It’s a great way to make the kids happy and to avoid some of the crowds.

If you are going to stay at a Disney hotel, the next decision is which one to choose. Price will most likely be a deciding factor and Disney resorts typically fall into one of four categories, based on the room price and the general amenities. Regardless of your choice, booking the

room as far ahead of time as possible, especially during summer, at Christmas and during school vacations is the best way to get your first choice.

The eight Disney deluxe resorts offer larger rooms ranging from 340 to 410 square feet, as well as balconies on most rooms. They also offer such extras as stylish dining options, concierge service and spectacular locations. Rooms at the deluxe resorts range from around $230 to $700 although larger suites can cost a lot more – you can pay up to around $2700 for some suites.

The moderate resorts offer rooms at prices ranging from around $150 per night to $250. These hotels also offer more stylish dining options than less expensive hotels and the rooms contain coffee makers and refrigerators. Pools at the moderate resorts offer such extras as hot tubs and poolside bars.

The least expensive category is the value resorts, with room rates ranging from around $90 to $140. Rooms are around 260 square feet and can comfortably sleep a family of four. Value resorts don’t tend to have stylish dining options, rather a choice of fast food type options in a food court setting.

Disney also offers several resorts that they call Home Away from Home Resorts, which are basically condo rentals, and part of Disney’s timeshare program. Rates range from around $280 to around $2100, which are based on the season and the size of the unit. Apart from the extra space, the condos offer such extras as full service restaurants, landscaped and attractive grounds and activity programs.

Walt Disney World is an extremely large resort; and, next to price, the location of your hotel is the next factor to consider when on deciding which hotel to choose. The three best hotels, location wise, are generally considered to be the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian and Disney’s Contemporary resort. All three are conveniently located on the Disney monorail line. If you stay at any Disney hotel, free transportation throughout the parks is included in the room cost.

Depending on your preference, you may want to choose a Disney hotel with a particular theme. Hotels have themes based on such diverse things as rock music, the American wilderness, old New Orleans, and of course, Hollywood and the movie industry.

The themes are skillfully and subtly incorporated into every element of the hotel; the architecture, room design, and restaurants all reflect the particular theme. The resorts offer entertainment as well, everything from live jazz to nightclubs and stand up comedy. If you are visiting Disney without children, you may want to consider one of the more adult-oriented resorts.

If you happen to be traveling with children to Disney World, as many people are, kids tend to enjoy staying at the themed hotels. Also, children under 18 stay for free in Disney hotels on what is known as the family plan. Check in time is 3pm at most Disney hotels and check out time is usually at 11am.

If you are traveling with your family and you need a break from the kids, Disney makes that easy as well. All the Disney resorts, as well as many other hotels in the Orlando area, offer baby sitting services. The more expensive Disney resorts have child care facilities with activity programs throughout the day. So, give some thought when choosing your Disney hotel, it can make all the difference when it comes to having a magical and memorable vacation.

Craig Elliott is a freelance writer who writes about topics pertaining to vacations and the travel industry such as <a

It would be difficult not to, Walt Disney World is one of the greatest theme parks on the planet. Considering the myriad of attractions available to visitors of the Magic Kingdom, planning a vacation that allows you and your family to see as much of the parks as possible can be a daunting task. A great way to ensure that you and your family will get the most out of your vacation time is to stay at a Disney resort instead of another hotel outside of the park area. Disney Resorts offers guests a multitude of extras that can make a Walt Disney World vacation unforgettable for you and your family.

The majority of visitors to Disney World are families with children. Most parents are aware of how difficult it can be to travel with kids. Imagine driving long distances each day from a hotel outside the park areas with excited children. Over the course of several days, that pattern could become extremely tiresome. Staying at a Disney resort right on the property can cut transportation time, gas and stress a great deal. If you consider the time spent driving from an Orlando hotel and the time spent in the parking lot, and also the time getting out of the park each day and back to your room, it can really add up. Now, compare that scenario to hopping onto a free monorail, boat or shuttle bus outside the Disney resort. Even if the difference is only 45 minutes, that equates to an hour and a half every day, for every family member. So, for t<div

Everyone knows that having fun can be exhausting at times. It’s good to be able to take a short break in the middle of the afternoon to relax in a quiet space for a short nap or rest. Not only does it refresh the body for a full evening of celebrations, it’s a good time to don clean clothes, change shoes, or obtain any forgotten items. Returning to the hotel room for this needed break is virtually impossible unless a guest is staying right on the property. Traveling beyond Disney properties and back would be extremely inconvenient. Disney Resort guests can get back to their room easily and relatively quickly. Plus, the best time to take advantage of any Disney Resort’s fantastic, landscaped pool area is during the heat of a typical Florida afternoon!

Although the advantages of staying at a Disney resort are considerable, it’s not just the logistics of the Disney Resort locations and the availability of free ground transportation that makes it worthwhile to stay within the park. There are numerous other advantages that make it clear why staying at a Disney resort hotel can maximize a family’s enjoyment while on vacation.

Extra Magic Hours- Disney Resort Guests can enjoy Theme Parks more than other guests. One park daily opens an hour early and closes up to 3 hours later just for Disney Resort Guests to enjoy at their leisure, offering shorter lines and cooler temperatures. (The water parks of Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon open one hour early for Disney Resort Guests every day.)

Disney Magic Express- Disney Resort Guests can attach specialized baggage tags before checking in at participating hometown airports. Upon arrival in Orlando, guests board a deluxe motor coach, bypassing the baggage claim, and have their luggage delivered directly to their room. Upon checkout, Guests can obtain airline boarding passes and check their bags right at the Disney Resort, eliminating airport check-in.

Disney Dining Plan- Resort Guests can select from 100 restaurants throughout the Disney properties for 2 meals per day plus a nighttime snack. This includes fine dining and Disney Character Experiences.

Disney Priority Seating- Resort Guests can make reservations at selected Disney restaurants up to 120 days in advance.

Complimentary Parking – Resort Guests who drive to Disney Theme Parks can park for free.

Services for Disabled Visitors and Children-Disney Resort Guests with handicaps can receive special accommodations. Disney also offers in-room child care, learning programs, dinner clubs and activities. (Additional fees may apply.)

Charging and Delivery- Disney Resort Guests can charge meals, tickets and purchases to their rooms with their Resort ID, and then have any items delivered right to their hotel door.

Guest Recreation- Without even having to leave their hotel premises, Disney Resort Guests can enjoy championship golf courses, health spas, tennis courts, parasailing, horseback riding, fishing, and waterskiing. Disney Resort Guests also have unlimited use of unique pools, which offer some of most fabulous settings in the world for water enjoyment!

Concierge and Cast Member Service- Disney Resort Guests can obtain round-the-clock service from its many outstanding employees, whose only goal is to ensure visitor satisfaction. With personalized attention at the front desk, refreshments throughout the day and helping Guests find answers, reservations, tickets and transportation, visitors to a Disney Hotel will always find assistance when needed!

The Walt Disney World Resort can create magic and make dreams come true. The extra benefits afforded to a Disney Resort Guest are considerable. With 16 Resorts from which to choose, Disneyworld Guests will find a favorite that offers them all that and more!

Stephanie Larkin is a freelance writer who writes about topics involving vacations and the travel industry including <a

But if you want to experience something that is truly unique and do something a bit out of the ordinary, then consider taking a turtle watching tour when you are on vacation in Florida.

Sea Turtles are a species that have been on the planet for millions of years. They do their nesting and hatching in the same location year after year and if you go on a guided tour at the right time of year you may be able to watch a sea turtle complete her nesting or watch hatchlings make their way into the world. Baby sea turtles, with their incredibly big eyes, are considered one of the cutest little creatures around.

If you are visiting the east coast of Florida then there are several locations where you can join a turtle walk. They are called turtle walks rather than turtle watches because there is no guarantee that you will see a turtle at any given time. However, the odds that you will see a nesting or hatchlings are quite high if you take a properly guided walk. The season for viewing the sea turtles is in June and July.

Here are the places where you can take a tour:

Canaveral National Seashore

This is part of the Merritt Island Nation National Wildlife Refuge. Participants for the walks in the northern end of this area gather at the Canaveral National Seashore Information center located at 7611 South Atlantic Avenue in New Smyrna Beach. You can make reservations for the June walks by calling 321-428-3384 on May 15. Similarly i<div

Only 25 people can participate in a group walk and children under eight cannot take part.

Sebastian Inlet State Park, located in Melbourne Beach, is another popular turtle walk location. Public turtle walks are held several times a week in June and July. In order to take part you should make a reservation two weeks ahead of the walk. Call 321-589-2147 to make a reservation. You can reserve places for up to six people.

If you really want to be sure and see turtle hatchlings then a trip to the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale might be the best place to visit. Here, during the summer months, you can watch a display of incubated live eggs. The Museum also organizes beach turtle walks and you can make a reservation (around April 15) by calling: 954-467-6637

One thing to keep in mind is that sea turtles are an endangered species and normal flashlights and flash photography are forbidden on these tours since they disorient the turtles. In addition, only trained and authorized personnel are allowed to handle sea turtles. Violations to this rule can result in a $500, 000 fine and a prison sentence.

Other popular turtle watching locales include Marine life Center of Juno Beach (561-627-8280), Sea Turtle Preservation Society, Melbourne (321-676-1701), Florida Power and Light Company, Jensen Beach (800-334-5483), Hobe Sound Nature Center (772-546-2067), Mote Marine Laboratory, Sarasota (941-388-4331) and Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Vero Beach (772-562-3909, ext.258)

Call the phone numbers for the various turtle watching centers in April if you want to be sure of making a tour in the summer because space is limited.<BR

As a holiday location it is perfect for family holidays as it offers something for everyone: theme parks, water parks, golf, major sports, great weather and lots of shopping! Florida is known as ‘America’s playground’, with Orlando alone attracting a staggering 52 million visitors every year. Indeed, when it comes to the number of available hotel rooms, Orlando is the second-largest city in America. That combined with the year-round sub-tropical climate makes it a top spot in which to retire or hold business conferences, but it is family tourism that mainly drives the local economy.

Walt Disney did Orlando’s tourist economy a great service when his company took a gamble on converting 20,000 acres of swampland into Walt Disney World – a major tourist attraction. The Disney attractions built around Lake Buena Vista opened in 1971 and, since then, Orlando has never looked back. Disney operates four theme parks and two water parks, as well as other attractions including six golf courses. But, they are by no means the only major attraction: there’s also Universal Orlando comprising the Studios theme park, City Walk and the Island of Adventures, the latter featuring several extreme rollercoaster rides. Also in the Orlando/Kissimmee conurbation, you will find Sea World Orlando, Wet’n’Wild and lots more diverse attractions, such as Gatorland, Medieval Knights dining experience and plenty of crazy golf!

Over the last 20 years many major Ame<div

Hard Rock Cafe, for example, built a traditional Café, a hotel and a major music venue with seating for 3,000. New theme parks and attractions seem to be springing up daily, with the latest addition being The Holy Land Experience, where visitors can visit a recreated ancient Israel.

Due to the size of the Orlando/Kissimmee area it is easier to get around if you hire a car, but if you prefer you can easily experience Orlando without driving. Shuttle buses operate to most of the popular tourist attractions and your operators will pick you up from most of the main hotels in Orlando. However, hiring a car is relatively cheap and you will be free to go where you want, when you want, including the many attractions outside of Orlando, such as the awe-inspiring Kennedy Space Centre, the Harry P. Leu Gardens and the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando Odditorium.

<a

ID Cards, or identification cards, are common place these days – you want to use a gym, go to a library, have a hotel room or even get into your place of work, and the chances are that you will have an access card. Probably one card per application!

In the early days, identification cards were simple hand written affairs which were manually entered by a receptionist to allow you access. Quickly systems such as magnetic strips and bar codes replaced manual methods, so that you could quickly swipe your own card to gain entry. Recent developments have meant that non-contact RFID technology can be used – your status can be determined from a distance. In fact, RFID technology is now even used in the passports of the United States of America – a grand entry ID card for a huge country!

So, it is clear that ID cards are an essential part of everyday life, and that we would not be able to have the freedom that we currently do without the simplicity of access cards.

Where is it all leading? In science fiction stories, it often seems that some kind of biometric data is necessary to enter top secret locations. The bad-guys will always clone a fingerprint or a retina so that they can pretend to be someone who they are not. The movie makers show us some kind of laser device which scans your eyes, a black pad with a glowing green light which scans your palm and even a voice activated security system. Is this all science fiction?

Biometric data is most definitely being used for identification in modern society. In 1880 finger

prints were first discussed with the Metropolitan Police as a way to determine the identity of law breakers, so this is nothing new. At Disney World, biometric information is taken from the visitors to make sure that they do not swap entry tickets throughout their visit. Some biometric information includes the look of the face, fingerprints, hand shape, the iris, and it can even include DNA, your fingerprint at a biological level.

One of the problems with the use of biometric information as a form of ID or access is the environmental effect on the data received. For example, poor lighting can greatly effect the image received from a facial recognition system. Fingerprints can be distorted by pressure or rotation. Even the iris is not a completely straightforward indicator of identity.

But still, the use and collection of biometric data is growing, with the United States, Japan and Australia at the forefront of collection. In Japan some automatic teller machines (ATMs) now use palm vein detection as part of a wider authentication scheme, and it has been very successful at reducing theft.

Of course, with any technology which is able to identify an individual, there is a security concern. Many activists claim that the use of biometric information is an infringement of rights, and others claim that it opens up a whole new arena for theft of identity, one which it will be difficult to protect against if the criminals can come up with a convincing way to “clone” an identity. None the less, the use of biometric and physical information continues to gain acceptance and will over time become the standard way to get entry.

Widespread use of biometric data as a form of day-to-day identification and for access is still to happen. Until that time, we will all be stuck with carrying around a pocket full of plastic to allow us to shop, get into work and even to pay for our transportation.

Who is to say – before long we will be able to simply walk into a shop, select the items that we want and then walk out with them, legally! RFID technology, combined with biometric information could give us a completely new shopping experience!

F.Bradfield is an author and web designer who represents ‘The Cardnetwork’ (http://www.thecardnetwork.co.uk), the premier producer of <a

The imagination and creative effort that have been put into the theme parks is amazing and has attracted visitors from around the world. However, reality is sometimes just as exciting as imagination, and nowhere is this more evident than at the Kennedy Space Center.

If you are visiting Orlando, then you should certainly set aside some time to visit the Space Center. Let me introduce some of the attractions that have made the Kennedy Space Center a big hit with visitors to Florida.

The expeditions to the moon in the early 1970s are an historic milestone for humanity and you can get a first hand view of the technology that made these flights possible at the Saturn 5 center. Here you can look at a full scale rocket which measures more than 360 feet high and weighs in at 6.2 million pounds. You not only get a gaze at the mammoth rocket but can also take a simulated voyage to the moon and get up close to everything with a detailed exhibition.

You can even go further into the history of space travel in the Early Space history section of the Space Center. The early Mercury and Gemini space capsules are on display along with the control panel that the mission controllers used to guide the early space flights.

Almost everyone is fascinated by Earth’s neighbor, the red planet Mars, and a section devoted to the Viking landings of 1976 let’s you take a trip to Mars in a simulated visit

that retraces the route followed by the unmanned Viking probes. You can even touch a piece of Mars because a meteorite that originated from Mars is also on display.

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be an astronaut on a shuttle flight? If so then make sure you visit the Shuttle Launch simulator. The whole room vibrates as the Shuttle takes off and when you “reach orbit” you will get an astronauts-eye view of the Earth.

Speaking of astronauts, you can meet an astronaut at the space center. Throughout the year astronauts from the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and the Shuttle eras meet with the visitors.

During the 50 years of the Space Age our astronauts and space probes have taken dramatic footage of outer space. You can see the best shots in a spectacular fashion at the IMAX 3D Theater and really get a feel for what it is like to be an astronaut.

There is a lot to see at the Kennedy Space Center and the best way to make sure that you see it all is to take a guided tour of the facility on a bus ride that stops at all the major installations of the Center. The first bus leads at 9:30 AM and there are continuous throughout the day.

As you leave the center you can pick up a souvenir at the Space Shop. You can choose from over 8000 items of space memorabilia.

This is only a sampling of what you can expect at the Space Center, so be sure to visit this entertaining and educative attraction during your stay in Central Florida.

Janice McSherry writes frequently about Orlando tourism. This special, all-night event allows busloads of students to enter the park after it closes. The students get to dance to special musical acts, watch fireworks, and ride attractions. The event goes on until four o’clock in the morning, but schools can make arrangements with one of the Disney Resort Hotels for students to stay overnight. Let us explain more about grad nite and how it can make your graduation the best.

The Disney graduation party is not a new tradition; Disneyland has hosted such an event since’61. In recent years, the parties at Disney World in particular have gotten flashier, with popular musicians and actors performing at events since 2006. In recent years, acts such as the Fray and Britney Spears have appeared at graduation parties at Disney World.

A trademark of the Disney World party is surprise celebrity visits. Teenagers are eager to come to this event because they never know who might show up. Musical acts for this coming year have not been announced yet, but many teens speculate that Taylor Swift or Black-Eyed Peas might perform.

Both events also include access to popular rides such as Space Mountain and Indiana Jones. In addition to dancing the night away, graduating seniors can go on as many of these rides as they like; unlimited access is part of the package schools pay for when they sign up to participate in the event.

You might wonder wh<div

Thousands of students from different schools attend, which could become chaotic if not handled well. However, the Disney events are perfectly safe, which is a big selling point.

The event is planned with safety in mind. School officials and parents should feel comfortable sending their children to this event. Disney has strict rules governing student behavior during the event. Students must arrive with their school, not in private vehicles, so you don’t have to worry about teenagers driving at night. In addition, the event must be chaperoned. The school is required to provide one adult chaperone for every 10 students attending the event, and one chaperone from each participating school must be present at the event at all times. (There is a lounge chaperones may relax in when they need a break from duty.)

Although the biggest graduation party is held at Disney World, there is also an event at Disneyland for West Coast teenagers. At Disneyland, the park is open on graduation night only to teenagers celebrating their high school graduation. Schools must sign up for the event in advance. The students get unlimited access to popular rides such as Space Mountain and Indiana Jones after the park closes. As with the Disney World event, drugs and alcohol are not allowed. Disneyland also has strict rules about how closely students are to be chaperoned. Students have to attend the event with their school chaperones and cannot arrive in their own vehicles.

Disney Grad Nite is a fun, exciting way for graduating seniors to celebrate the accomplishment of having successfully completed all their coursework. The event is certain to create memories that students will share with their future families in years to come.

Looking to find the best deal on <a
