If you are applying for a packers position,the first thing you need to know is how to correctly make up a moving box. You must also become good with a tape gun (so practice!).
When making up a new moving carton, first hold it upright, then fold down the top flaps. They are connected with small tabs. Then square it up and turn it over. Now fold the bottom flaps in and secure the seam with 2-3 strips of tape. Be sure to start and end the tape with at least 3-5 inches on either side. This will prevent the tape from letting loose. When packing, start with a cushion layer of paper on the bottom. Then you will fill the box with heavy items on the bottom, and get lighter and lighter as you get to the top. Now finish with another layer of cushioning (crumpled newsprint, towels, bedding, etc.). EVERYTHING you put into the box will be paper-wrapped in at least one, but usually 2-3 sheets of newsprint to protect the items during transit.
An important thing to remember is: The heavier the item, the smaller the box. Moving cartons come in many sizes, so learning what to put in each one will be of great help to you. Another tip: Shake the box when you're finished packing it to be sure nothing rattles or shifts around inside. By packing tightly, it will travel much safer.
