The flora of mangrove forests and nearby paddy fields develops perfect ecology which supports several species of birds. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary:
It is the second largest animal sanctuary in Kerala which was established in 1973. This wildlife reserve is also an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphre Reserve.
