Growing wheatgrass is certainly not the easiest chore on the list and it takes a little of time and dedication to make the process work for you. You have to be patient and willing to deal with a little disappointment if it doesn’t quite work out the way you wanted it to. There are a number of steps that you need to follow in order to successfully grow wheatgrass and I’d like to explain them to you. When you’ve successfully managed to grow the wheatgrass on your own, you’ll be able to make all the wheatgrass juice that your little heart desires.
The first step of growing wheatgrass is to get the seeds if you haven’t done so already. Once you’ve obtained the seeds, you’ll want to sprout the seeds in water for 6 to 12 hours. If you want to increase the number of seeds that sprout, you can use a little food grade H202.
Second, create a 50/50 mixture of organic soil and peat moss and place this mixture in a seed tray. This tray will be used as the planted for the wheatgrass and will need to be at 1 ½ inches thick in order for your wheatgrass to grow fully. You can find seed trays just about anywhere you can think of, and a lot of times you can get them for free if they’ve been recycled. If you don’t have a seed tray, you can use a cafeteria tray and that will work just fine.
Third, when you’ve got the tray prepared and you’ve got as many seeds sprouted as you think you can possibly get, spread the seeds over the soil on the seed tray. You’ll want to make sure that the seeds are not overlapping because this will disturb the growing process. It’s OK if they are touching. This will not affect any part of the growing process.
The fourth step is to sprinkle peat moss over the seeds until they are all completely covered. This will allow the seeds to properly germinate and grow to their fullest ability. Once you’ve got the seed completely covered, water the entire tray but be careful not to disturb the seeds and peat moss.
Finally, the easiest step is to simply put the tray in indirect sunlight for 7 to 10 days and water as you see necessary. The amount of time that the grass requires for growing may vary based on factors such as room temperature, the amount of light, and the frequency of watering. When the grass is about 7 inches tall it is ready for harvesting. Cut the grass as need, but be sure not to cut too much grass so it can grow back. When you have enough grass, juice and enjoy! That’s all there is too it and when you’ve successfully mastered the art of growing wheatgrass, you’ll have an endless supply to enjoy day in and day out.
