Formerly a humble fishing town, the region grew rapidly as a British colony up until 1997 when it was relinquished to Chinese rule.

Visitors wishing to gain further insights into the region’s culture and achievements throughout the years need only venture to the vast array of museums and galleries dotted throughout. Many are considered national landmarks thanks to their innovative design and their exquisite yet unique collections.

Space has been a recent venture in China’s illustrious history. The Hong Kong Space Museum was setup in 1980 and was devised as a showcase to help raise awareness on space exploration within China and more specifically Hong Kong.

Built around the futuristic dome of the planetarium, the Hong Kong space museum set about to create a structure that represented cutting edge design merged with the latest technology. This has led to the creation of what can be considered one of Asia’s most contemporarily unique architectural wonders. The building’s design was so innovative; it was made a national landmark.

Situated on the scenic Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, the museum is divided into two wings, east and west. The former is home to the giant dome of the planetarium beneath which is housed the Stanley Ho Space Theatre. The theatre is home to Asia’s only Omnimax theatre. The features at this cinema are displayed in vivid High Definition clarity that is bound to mesmerise viewers leaving them in awe of the wonders of the cosmos.

The west wing houses the Hall of Space Science where man’s exploits into space are chartered along with the technological enhancements that have arisen as a result. A lecture hall is also present in this wing where authorities in space related fields hold talks and seminars regarding the latest scientific breakthroughs and help raise awareness on space exploration.
