Popular Science Magazines Are Losing Their Grip

The number of popular type science magazines on the shelves at the local bookstore and the magazine racks has grown exponentially. In fact, why don't you go and see for yourself. Go buy yourself a cup of coffee and go to the magazine rack and pick up all the science magazines and then go sit back down to page through them.

The number of popular type science magazines on the shelves at the local bookstore and the magazine racks has grown exponentially. In fact, why don't you go and see for yourself. Go buy yourself a cup of coffee and go to the magazine rack and pick up all the science magazines and then go sit back down to page through them.

This is something that I do once a month just to give me ideas and keep myself up on all the innovations in the world. By the time you get done picking up all these magazines there will be 15 to 20 of them. But where do they all come from? How much popular present science news is there in the world?

If you do this each month, like I do as a habit, you will note that eventually all the stories start looking the same. And each one of these science magazine seems to be trying to compete with the next. It is my personal opinion that these magazines are losing their grip, and they are becoming less scientific and more like "People Magazine," the only difference is there are fewer pages.

These magazines that used to have specific information, and often had science research papers printed within their pages now are more about generalities, as they are geared towards the average citizen. There are fewer science articles and more fluff each and every month. Indeed, they must not be doing very well because I've also noted that they have lowered prices to $2.99, $3.99 and $4.99 at the major bookstores and magazine racks now.

One can only wonder if these popular science magazines are going the way of the major newspapers in our country. We know that many trade journals have gone out of business, and more will follow, or science magazines next? Please consider all this.
