Jaipur, which literary means city of victory, is one of the most popular tourist attractions of India. This capital of Rajasthan was built in the 18th century by King Sawai Jai Singh. Since then, this city has been ruled by various king and they have left a lasting legacy in the form of numerous brilliant monuments. Jaipur is a perfect reflection of India's rich culture and tradition. Often referred as pink city, this city boasts of many architectural wonders which fascinates tourists from across the globe.

Jaipur smells of royalty because of its past royal legacy. Innumerable number of historical monuments located all over the city speaks high of the artistic brilliance of the past royal architects. Jaipur today finds its name in almost every tourist map of the world. Sheer beauty and aura of city along with the various architectural monuments draw tourists towards Jaipur. This city has large number of forts, palaces and havelis. Some of the famous historical monuments of city are Amber fort, Jaigarh fort, Nahargarh fort, Hawa Mahal, City palace complex etc. Best thing is that several legends are associated with each of these monuments.

Tourists Attraction of City

Hawa Mahal: It is the most popular tourist attraction of city. This monument was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratab Singh and was designed by Lal Chand Usta. This monument was basically built for the royal Rajput women to watch the processions passing through the street below. It is from this five storied building that visitors can have the best view of the city.

Amber fort : It is one of the most popular forts of Jaipur. Though exterior of this fort looks rough, the interior is quite soothing and warm ambiance will greet the visitors. Decoration inside the fort has been influence from Hindu and Muslim manner of ornamentation.

Jantar Mantar : This beautiful monument was built by king Sawai Jai Singh in the year 1718. It is an observatory which was built to study the moment of stars and constellations. This monument has been built using marble and stone.

City Palace Complex : This structure came into existence when Jaipur city itself was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. In the later year his successors brought many changes in the architecture of this monument. A lot of Mughal and Rajasthani flavour can be seen in the structure of this monument. There are numerous small palaces and halls inside the complex like Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal etc.

Some of the other famous tourist attraction of city are Central museum, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Rambagh palace, Nahargarh fort etc.

Shopping in Jaipur

Jaipur is a city of colourful bazaars and markets. The reflection of Jaipur's rich colourful tradition can be traced in the numerous bazaars and markets of city. Specially one can find lot of ethnic and traditional items. Starting from handicrafts, antiques, jewelleries, carpets, leatherware etc, tourists can check out various types of items while shopping in the city. Jaipur is specially famous for handicrafts and jewelleries.

Most popular markets of city are Johari bazaar, Nehru bazaar, Bapu bazaar, Tripolia bazaar etc. Johari bazaar is most popular for jewellery items. Different types of jewellery products like necklace, rings, bracelets etc can be purchased from Johari bazaar. Jaipur is famous all over the world for Kundan jewellery and it is from Johari bazaar that many of them are exported to across the world. Bapu and Nehru bazaar are famous for the artistically beautiful footwear made of the soft camel leather. There are many shops dealing in sari and fabrics, original leather products like bags and purse, local perfumes etc. Tripolia bazaar is popular for ironware, brassware and carpets. Some shops in the market deals in utensils, rugs, furniture etc. Apart from these markets there are many state owned emporiums where visitors can buy many traditional items.

Fairs and Festivals of Jaipur

Jaipur is one city where festivities never end. Through out the year some or other festivals and fairs are celebrated in the city. These fairs and festivals are very colourful in nature and offer a wonderful opportunity to the tourists to be part of local population in their moment of happiness. Jaipur comes alive during these festivals and fairs. Each of these festive and fair have their own significance in the society. For those tourists who wants to learn more about the tradition and custom of Jaipur, these fairs and festivals offer the best chance. This city celebrate some unique festivals in their own imitable style.

Some of the popular fairs and festivals of city are Elephant festival, Gangaur festival, Dussehra, Holi, Kite festival etc. During kite festival people from all age group join the celebrations. This festival is celebrated around the time of Hindu festival Makar Sankranti. Another popular festival is elephant festival which is celebrated in the month of March. During these festival elephants are beautifully decorated and processions are taken out. This festival offers a unique opportunity to the visitors to see elephant indulge in various activities.

Connectivity

By Air: Jaipur international airport is located 13 km away from the city centre. It has direct flight operating to all the major cities of India. Some international flights too operate from here.

By Rail: Jaipur has direct train connection with major cities of India. Specially from Delhi there are many trains which connects this city. Many luxury trains like Palace on Wheels, Royal Rajasthan on Wheels and Shatabdi express cover this majestic city.

By Road:Jaipur has got excellent rail connectivity with Delhi and other important cities.
