net has not been around that long, in the scheme of things, but it is definitely one of the most important parts of society and life today. On so many levels, the Internet plays an important role in the day to day lives of millions of people in the world. It is strange to imagine that not that long ago, it did not even exist. It has saturated into nearly every aspect of our daily lives, and people can spend hours exploring online. One of the most popular aspects of the Internet is definitely music. People can easily and quickly download a large number and variety of music on the Internet, and it has really changed how people purchase and gain access to new music. Today's musicians absolutely must have a presence online in order to succeed today. Most artists at minimum have their own official website online. Many of them also expand to include sections on popular social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook. If a band fails to have a decent presence on the Internet today, fans will lose interest and find it more difficult to listen to their music. Another obvious reason for the popularity of the Internet is how easy it makes it to communicate and keep in touch with friends and family all around the world. Back before the days of email and the Internet, people usually kept in touch through letters or telephone calls. Both of these methods were either slow or expensive. With the Internet, you can create a profile on a site such as Facebook, and keep everyone updated as to what you are up to in your life. You can upload pictures to your profile so friends and family everywhere can see how you are doing. Sending messages to people is so easy, thanks to the Internet. It truly has changed how people communicate in this world. The Internet has also dramatically changed shopping experiences for many people. Before, if you wanted to find a rare or unique item you had to go from store to store, or order it through a cumbersome mail order catalog. Usually this process would take an incredible amount of time, and would hardly even seem worth the effort, in many cases. With the Internet, you can now search for, find and order many things with the simple click of a mouse button. Particularly with popular online auction sites such as eBay, finding that rare item truly is a breeze. Studying is also entirely different and easier now that the Internet is so popular. It is much less likely to need to run to the library. If you own a computer, it is incredibly easy to study about the subject of your choice, from the comfort of your own home. People no longer need to drive to the library, look up things in card drawers, make copies or take notes, and so on. Thanks to the Internet, a simple search and a few minutes of looking are all that is generally required when researching any given topic.
