Humboldt State University – The Center Of Practical Education

Humboldt State University (also known as HSU) is situated in Arcata within the Humboldt County, California, United States. Established as a teacher's college in 1913, the university campus shifted to its current location in 1921. The popular major programs of this institute include business administration, art, biology, elementary education, nursing, kinesiology, psychology, wildlife and English.

Degrees and Programs

Contrary to the stereotype classroom teaching sessions of other universities; the Humboldt University gives stress to practical exposure and knowledge through social work, wildlife, photography etc. A wide range of majors are available in the institute including the 84 undergraduate minor degrees, 49 undergraduate majors, 12 graduate programs, 82 options/concentrations, 21 credential programs and several certificate courses.

All the given programs are coupled with experiments, lab research and extensive field work. The majors are available in numerous subjects mainly being business administration, art, biology, elementary education, nursing, kinesiology, psychology, wildlife and English. A full state-of-art library is also there with a vast collection of books, journals, magazines and research guides.

Three Main College Divisions

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences for the artistic and intellectual community has 17 departments including mainly music, art, sociology, Native American Studies and English departments.

The College of Professional Studies is for the professionals, who are committed towards helping communities and individuals realize their business goals. It has 11 departments; child development, business school, economics, health care and education, to name a few.

The College of Natural Resources & Sciences is ideal for students having interest in preservation and management of natural resources. Out of the 15 departments; forestry, biology, psychology and oceanography are the major disciplines in demand among the students.

Humboldt State University Advancement Foundation

Set up on March 16, 2004; the Humboldt State University Advancement Foundation is a non-profit organization working within the college campus. This 17 member foundation provides fiduciary oversight, advocacy and expertise to enhance and encourage the charitable causes to manage the university's progressive donations and funds.
