Dial-up Internet On its Last Legs with Satellite Broadband Around?

While the average day trader might think it wise to sell off all those old dial-up company shares and stocks, the numbers continue to stay quite stable for many dial-up internet providers. It may appear that dial-up is a dead technology that fizzled out years ago to someone living comfortably in a technologically cushioned urban area, but the truth is that many people find need and practicality in a dial-up connection for a number of reasons.

Although in generally the projection for dial-up internet companies' success is pointed in a downward direction, it seems the sharp nosedive these companies were expected to take has turned into more of a slowly descending ramp.

One of the ways this is happening is by diversifying. Some dial-up companies are also offering broadband and keeping revenues up. Other dial-up companies have been managed by larger media giants, and therefore can afford to maintain their existing dial-up customer base. However, it's not all about gimmick in the continuing dial-up internet economic arena, it's also about a real demand that still exists within many internet subscribing circles.

The primary reason for actively choosing dial-up, sources say, is the low cost. While some customers haven't got the option to choose terrestrial broadband providers like DSL and cable, due to a rural or remote location, today there are other options. These users could choose alternative services like satellite internet broadband if they were really serious about keeping a high speed connection. Instead, they like the fact that for around $5 to $25 dollars a month they can have an internet connection, however basic. With the economy still slumping its shoulders quite heavily, many families that were on the verge of slipping over the edge and into debt have managed to stay afloat by cutting costs and switching back to services like dial-up internet at home instead of maintaining a high speed internet connection. Some customers that would have elected satellite internet broadband 2 or 3 years ago, today would not think twice about renewing a dial-up plan.

Another offshoot of the cost issue is the maintenance of multiple internet lines. While a person might spring for broadband in their main office or residence, that same person might decide dial-up will do just fine for a vacation home, a second home, a study or studio, a second apartment, or any other space where only basic functions like email and possibly basic browsing are required. Such properties are also far more likely to be located in rural and remote zones where a costly satellite internet connection that is only utilized two or three times a year is hardly warranted. The more practical and economical option is to stay with dial-up service, no matter how outdated it may be.

Today, not many businesses, residences and educational institutes would choose dial-up first for performance or convenience. Given the opportunity most would trade in their dial-up for satellite broadband. However, as the economy struggles and prices on dial-up stay low, it will continue to be a case by case battle of whether price or convenience wins the day.

For high speed internet no matter where you live the top choice is satelite internet internet. Keep wild blue in mind when reviewing your internet choice this year.
