was named after David Crockett, who at one time operated a powder mill, a gristmill, and a distillery along the banks of the Shoal Creek that flows through the park. It was dedicated to him in May of 1959 to honor one of Tennessee's most famous native sons.
Camping
The park has two big campgrounds split into 107 different sites. All of the individual camp sites are equipped with a table and grill plus hookups for both water and electricity.
The nearby bathhouses provide hot showers, commodes, and lavatories for all of the visiting campers. There are no reservations available and stays are limited to two weeks only. Also, the camp sites are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Though most times there is plenty of space available, there may be certain occasions or special events going on were many or even all of the spaces are taken.
David Crockett State Park has a beautiful 40 acre lake that provides year-round fishing. Lindsey Lake as it's called is stocked with many different kinds of fish including bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish.
Any fisherman over the age of thirteen must have a valid Tennessee fishing license. You can fish anywhere on the lake from the bank or via a rowboat with paddles or your own trolling motor. No privately owned boats are permitted on the lake!
Recreation
David Crockett State Park also has many other things you can do while you're there. In the summer time you can take a dip in their Olympic-sized swimming pool. The pool features a concession stand and changing area for swimmers. There is a wading pool for the smaller children and plenty of space to bask in the sun. The pool is open from Memorial Day until late summer and lifeguards are on duty for your safety.
There are a wide variety of other activities available around David Crockett State Park including a paved bicycle/hiking trail that cuts through the woods. If you're lucky, you may encounter some of the local wildlife such as deer, squirrels, rabbits, and turkey. The deer and the turkey are most commonly seen throughout the park in the late afternoon just before dusk but they can also be seen just wondering around throughout the park at any time of the day as well.
Other activities that may be of interest are tennis, softball, volleyball, basketball, archery and much more. There is even some recreational equipment available at the park office that you can check-out for use in many of the activities listed.
