New Mexico is a state celebrated for its rich cultural history, and contemporary cultural diversity.  This southwestern state has been part of the Imperail Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain, Mexico, and a territory of the United States.  Before all that it was populated by Native American populations during centuries, and is still home to large groups of Navajo and Pueblo peoples.  Today, New Mexico is also home to the largest percentage of Hispanics in the United States, some descendants of Spanish colonists, and some recent immigrants from Mexico and various locations in Latin America.  With all of that diversity, it is hard to imagine that New Mexico is the sixth most sparsely inhabited state in the Nation.

Where is everyone?  Many are not prepared for the rugged, remote landscapes of the Rocky Mountains, the Rio Grande, semiarid plains or the New Mexican desert-like terrain.  Beautiful locations to visit, but difficult locales to live, physical barriers have long been the reasoning behind the sparse population of the state.  This is not to mention that many areas of New Mexico are protected by the Federal government, like the Carson National Forest, Cibola National Forest, Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness.  Other areas managed by the National Park Service include the Axtec Ruins National Monument at Aztec, the Bandelier National Monument in Los Alamos, and the Old Spanish National Historic Trail.  While tourism is high on the list of economic drivers in New Mexico, oil and gas production are the major sources of industry.

This important corridor for trade and migration is being united with assistance from the government encouraging the development of new technologies.  Making this possible in even the most remote areas of New Mexico is the availability of satellite internet across teh state.  With satellite internet broadband it is finally possible for residents across the state to get connected to fast, reliable internet.  The implications are that even the most schools, businesses, and homes will be able to access all the information that people in more densely populated areas have access to.  In the development of new and improved technologies, satellite internet connection will be imperative in New Mexico.

New Mexico is home to fine secondary institutions like the Eastern New Mexico University, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, New Mexico State University, and the University of New Mexico.  With UNM locations across the state in places like Taos, Gallup, Los Alamos and Valencia, the spreading of available technology will be imperative to student success.  In order to build up a strong technological sector, satellite internet will provide students the flexbility to move around the state without worrying that connectivity will not be available.

Expect to see New Mexico on the forefront of technology in the near future with the development of the Albuquerque International Sunport, the state’s primary port of entry for air transportation.  Space tourism company, yes, as in outer space, Virgin Galactic intends to operate out of New Mexico as its primary location.  Just imagine, soon New Mexico will not only be the gateway to the American southwest, but intergalactic tourism.  With satellite internet leading the way, watch New Mexico move to the forefront of the technological revolution.
