Bp’s Applications Director, Curt Smith Will Present at the Upcoming 2008 Wireless & Mobile Expo and Conference

June 25, 2008 - Toronto, Canada – Curt Smith, Application Director at BP will conduct a conference session at the upcoming 2008 Wireless & Mobile Expo and Conference, scheduled on July 15 & 16, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada.

June 25, 2008 - Toronto, Canada – Curt Smith, Application Director at BP will conduct a conference session at the upcoming 2008 Wireless & Mobile Expo and Conference, scheduled on July 15 & 16, 2008 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada.

Curt Smith is the Applications Director in BP's Chief Technology Office. Curt is a Geologist by background before moving into the world of Information Technology. He created and led two of the recent Game Changers “Intel inside BP” and “Clipboard-to-Computer”.  Recent public appearances include the keynote at the Society of Petroleum Engineers "Digital and Communications Technologies for the Oil and Gas Industry" in Houston, Texas and “RFID Technology in BP” at the Computer World Mobility and Wireless Summit.  He led the development of the world’s first Location Aware Safety System for positively accounting for people in the event of an emergency evacuation in industrial heavy metal environments and is currently working on a number of location aware systems including Lone Worker tracking, pipeline surveillance with unmanned aerial vehicles, People on Board management for offshore platforms, and asset management using low-power WiFi tags.

 

Previous roles in BP include: Program Director Global Projects, West Coast IT Manager, Region Infrastructure Services Manager Latin America, IT Manager Venezuela, Head of Consultancy Colombia, Project Manager Client-server migration Alaska, and Project Manager for the Production Databases in the North Slope Alaskan Oil Fields.
