If you ever find yourself getting in a pickle over some triviality and afterwords you feel that you should or could have responded differently then do not despair as their various ways you can change this.

But first let me ask you...

Have you ever found yourself lost in a day dream wondering where on earth you were or what just happened?

If so you would have most likely being experiencing what is known as an alpha or theta brain wave pattern. What does it mean to experience an alpha or theta brain wave pattern?

It means your brain was producing relatively slow waves of electromagnetic energy. Simply put your brain was in a more receptive and peaceful state where your sense of self in relation to space and time was altered. Hence the feeling that you were not fully present.

Everytime you go to sleep at night your brain goes into theta and lose sense of the physical realm where your awareness turns inwards to experience what we call the subtle realm. The subtle realm is the inner world where you are no longer confined to the gross physical body but instead experience the world with your subtle or etheric body.

The subtle or etheric body has different tones and qualities from your physical body; this is why you can do things in the dream state you cannot ordinarily do in your everyday waking state. One way to have greater self control is to enter the brainwave state associated with dreaming (theta) and explore it from the perspective of being awake. In other words we utilise some technique for training that specific brainwave pattern in the waking state.

This is where brainwave entrainment (BWE) technology excels!

Audio visual entrainment technology is one of the most effective ways to train this state and not only is it enjoyable and relaxing it also has cumulative benefits such as improved writing and reading capabilities, greater ability to remain focused under pressure,greater control over your emotions and reactions (the purpose of this post) which gives you the ability to make better decisions and be more effective in whatever you do.

How does it work?

Frequencies of light are introduced via the optic nerve with sound heard through both ears. Headphones and LED glasses make this possible. The light and sound pulses are synchronised and when exposed to this your brain matches the rate of the light/sound. You could say your brain changes its patterns of electrical activity according to the set frequencies of light and sound.

Your brain changes state and your mind follows!

If you imagine a strobe flashing in your eyes whilst closed and having sound pulsed through both ears, you can begin to imagine what the experience would be like.

If you blink your eyes two times every second this is the equivalent of a 2hz frequency or 2 cycles per second (cps) If you actually do this for a minute you will find your brain slowing down somewhat as 2hz is the delta frequency. Delta waves are associated with deep dreamless sleep and also deep meditation.

Training delta can be useful for deep meditation however for the purposes of accessing creative states and resourceful ways of responding it is better to focus on alpha and theta. When the brain is producing theta and alpha affirmations work more effectively and your powers of visualisation become enhanced. As well as using entrainment technology we can also take advantage of the power of association and anchor certain states when you most need them.

One way to do this is to imagine yourself inside a geometrical shape (also known as a holon) - a cube for example! You imagine yourself inside the cube while recalling the states you wish to have available to you like peace, joy serenity or love.

If you do this over time all you'll need to do is imagine your geometrical shape and the associated state will be anchored. You can use this technique whilst using the light sound technology. Both the AV technology and the anchoring technique are effective ways to gain mastery over your state.

You can also imagine how you would normally react and then rewind that in your mind to just before you respond and see yourself behaving differently or not reacting at all.

You see yourself behaving as you'd like to!

This will allow you to take control of yourself in those situations where a different response would be more appropriate. It is important to remember we are not perfect and are doing the best we can with the information resources and awareness we have at the time.
