Carat
The Carat is a term that is used as a trading standard. It is divided into 100 points which 1 Carat is as equal as 0.200 grams. It is become a well-known standard when the United States adopt this system in 1913 and fellow by other countries later. This factor is a significant factor in select or buying diamond or diamond ring. However, the price of each diamond in the same weight will not be the same price. It is also depend on other factors; colour, cut and clarity.
Colour
As the diamond is not true colourless jewellery, diamond’s colour can be scaled by using D-Z division. D grade diamond is the least colour and most valuable diamond. The letter will increase from D to Z relatively with the colour that increases.
Clarity
When considering Clarity of diamond, it means that to look about the inclusions, scratches, and trace mineral that make diamond impure. In the same way as colour, the clearer diamond has the more value it is. The clarity can be divided into 5 divisions.
- FL / IF division : Flawless
- VVS1 / VVS2 division : Very, very slightly included
- VS1 / Vs2 : Very slightly included
- SI 1 / SI 2 : Slightly included
- I1 / I2 / I3 : included
Cut
This is the most difficult diamond characteristic to measure. It will effect to a reflection of diamond to the light. The excellent diamond cut can help to improve diamond quality although it has an average colour and clarity quality. It is measured by evaluate the interrelation between diameter, table, crown, girdle, pavilion, culet and depth.
