Buying your first acoustic guitar can probably seem somewhat overwhelming. You may have a lot of questions swirling around in your head, such as how much should I spend, which are the best brands and what types of accessories do I need to buy?

Well, I can’t give you specific answers to those questions, but I can give you three good tips that can get you started in the right direction.

Buy a comfortable guitar.

Please don’t just walk into the store and buy the first guitar you see that fits your budget and looks nice. Hopefully this guitar is going to last you for many years.

Put some effort into your shopping. You will want to actually try out the various models to see if they are comfortable for you to hold and play.

Take the time to sit on a stool or chair, without arms, and hold the guitar and strum it some. Does it feel comfortable to you? Do you have to sit up too straight or bend over too much? If so, try others until you find one that fits you.

How does the guitar sound?

Now then while you are seated and trying out the fit of the various brands, you might as well enjoy yourself and strum or pick for awhile. How does each one sound to you?

Even though you may have found one that’s very comfortable, if the sound doesn’t suit you or is too tinny then just move on to another one.

And, yes, you may need to try a number of acoustic guitars before you find one that sounds great and feels great, too.

Last but not least, don’t over spend.

I know from experience that when you walk into that store and see all those wonderful guitars it’s hard not to just go hog wild and buy the best brand with the biggest price.

Try not to be distracted from your mission, which is to buy a comfortable, affordable and great sounding guitar.

So if you have followed the first two tips then you will have narrowed down your choices quite a bit by now. Then it should be easy, once you know you are comfortable when you play and the sound is nice, to pick the guitar with the price the fits your budget.

Will this take some effort?

Yes, you will need to spend some time to find the instrument that is perfect for you.

But remember, when you buy your guitar you will want to get one that you will enjoy playing for many years.  I’m sure you already know I have one in mind for you.
